The project aims to blend the city's identity with its surroundings, enhancing its physical and cultural qualities. This is achieved through the integration of public and private spaces, promoting interaction with the environment, and paying tribute to Iraqi tradition and its artistic expression through architectural elements.
The longitudinal approach of the project is based on promenades that unfold through various layers of activities, where public space extends over the buildings, culminating in a context that highlights the horizon and offers views of the nearby body of water.
As for the transversal approach, the project is divided into three sections, with a public square in the center that extends towards the river. On both sides of the square, there are volumes with screened facades that define the spaces of the market, yacht club and cultural center. This creates transparency and continuity in traffic at different levels, with areas for contemplation and gathering.
The layout of the market is inspired by Mudhif houses islands in the marshes, emphasizing the connection with nature and respect for the productive environment. Independent volumes create spaces for strolling and connections to the outside. The Shanasheel contribute to the aesthetics by enveloping the volumes, defining spaces, and allowing the circulation of air.
Finally, a grand roof inspired by Islamic patterns unifies the project and provides shade with diverse patterns of light, all while protecting people from direct sunlight by filtering its impact through a ceiling membrane, enhancing the climatic conditions of the area.
